The City of El Centro, covering 9.17 square miles, is the largest city in Imperial County and became the
county seat in 1907. The city lies 52 feet below sea level. The sun does not shine every day of the year, but it
comes nearer to doing so than in any other place in the United States. Thepopulation of El Centro is 37,835 with
people below the age of 20 being the highest age group.
The Chamber of Commerce provides economic and social leadership to promote tourism and community pride
to ensure El Centro’s growth, prosperity and quality of life.
The Chamber helps prepare students to enter the workforce by recruitingmentors, job shadowing and the
