The Town of Niland is a small place with a residency of roughly 900 people. It features a motel, gas station, two markets, and three restaurants. The town is situated on hwy 111 right next to the Salton Sea. Travelers can stop for rest, relaxation and the company of friendly people. Niland is home too primarily Retired individuals but also has a substantial population of younger people with children. Property values are some of the lowest in the state, So low cost housing is easily available. The town has a school which goes to grade 9. Older children attend the nearby school in Calipatria. Though the area is predominately Hispanic, Niland has a large white population. Malls and large stores are available in the nearby cities of Brawley and El Centro. The winter population of Niland doubles or triples every year as snowbirds and others visit the desert. The nearby Area known as Slab City, a campground, which is free, becomes home to many over the winter months. Nearby prisons, farms and cattle ranches provide employment to many in the area. Niland is a full service town and can be a fine place to visit or live.
